Organizing
Course Content
When organizing course content a good model to follow to
help you is the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop,
Implement, Evaluate). Use this model to help with
planning and implementing your online course.
Analyze
- Analyze
audience- Consider ages, location of students,
internet connectivity, experience, interests,
educational levels
- Determine
need- What past experiences does the department or
students have to develop a course.
- Identify
existing knowledge and skills and find the gaps that
need to be addressed. (What needs to be learned)
- Determine
constraints such as internet connectivity, time zones,
computer resources
- Identify
online pedagogical considerations and learning types
such as visual, auditory and verbal
Design
- Identify
learning objectives- Determine instructional intent
that will lead the students to their educational
goals.
- Establish
Goals-
- Determine
assessment instruments, exercises and content
- Identify
timelines for the course
Develop
- Create
content outline
- Review
existing materials
- Select,
develop, organize course content
Implement
Evaluate
- Determine
if instructional goals were met
- Evaluate
effectiveness of course
- Have
students fill out survey to determine strengths and
weakness
- Collect
and analyze date to consider ways to improve course
